It is said in our Vedic culture that one should offer food to the guests, if not food then offer water, if not water offer a seat and if not seat offer at least good words that will satisfy the person. Words are powerful they can create or destroy so one must be very careful while using them, I just heard a news few days back, that there was quarrel between the driver of auto and person who didn't have rs. 2 change to give, auto driver started using foul language for such a petty issue, that increased the quarrel more in which customer got killed, this happens now and then, this is power of languages and words!! That's why it's said, "Be careful what you say, you can say something hurtful in 10 seconds, but 10 years later wounds are still there.", we have to be very careful because one word can change someone's entire day.
A person of good character never uses bad language, Krishna talks about this in Bhagavad Gita text 16.4, He says,"Speaking harshly is demoniac quality". We have the example from Bhagavatam of Daksha, who started giving bad words to Lord Shiva who apparently disrespected him, this went on and on and at the end Daksha received head of goat as an punishment for using harsh words against Shiva. We know many current examples also how over trifles people become very angry and speak harshly, not gently. They do not know what should be done and what should not be done.
We must try to refine our language, Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita text 17.15,talks about this, "Austerity of speech consists in speaking words that are truthful, pleasing, beneficial, and not agitating to others, and also in regularly reciting Vedic literature.", Also one should not waste energy in talking nonsense but utilize in glorification of God and his associates.
So let's refine and purify our language by using it in the service of God and for spreading the words of God and not for speaking ill about someone and making it dirty like sewage.
